Window Plate-Glass Chip Repairs
Window and Shopfront Glass repairs
Plate-glass repair is a common process and stone chips caused by say lawn mowers may also be repaired.
Repairing plate-glass will:
- keep moisture out of the damaged area
- prevent small children or adults from injuring themselves
- will strengthen the glass to minimise further damage/breakage
Please note that glass repairs will not be optically perfect after repair, but will considerably improve the look.
The most common damage to plate glass is a "bulls eye fracture" caused by a small hard object hitting the glass and resulting in a 3 to 5mm funnel shaped glass plug being thrown out the opposite side. While this damage may look bad, it is actually easily repaired by an expert with the right tools and at a cost far less than replacing the glass. The repair involves injecting hi-tech resign into the hole under pressure. When it sets after just a few minutes, it is polished and made almost invisible. The repair is now safe from the small fingers of inquisitive children and the strength of the glass pane is also restored.
Replacing a window pane is expensive and with tradesmen and materials in short supply, can take an annoyingly long time. You may also find that window frames need repainting after the glass is replaced, adding more expense. We can often be onsite the same day to repair your window, at a fraction of the cost.
